Sustainability and wine are an indispensable combination for us at Gorghi Tondi EstateWe have been cultivating our land with respect, care and responsibility for four generations. Located between the WWF Oasis of Lake Preola and Gorghi Tondi and the Mediterranean Sea, our estate in Mazara del Vallo is a unique place, where nature dictates the rhythms and the work in the vineyard harmonises with its surroundings.
For this reason, today we are particularly proud to announce a double milestone: we have obtained VIVA and SOStain certificationstwo awards that attest to our commitment to increasingly sustainable viticulture.
What is VIVA certification
The programme VIVA - Sustainability in Viticulture in Italy is promoted by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. The objective is to measure, through scientific and transparent indicators, the environmental impact of wineries in four key areas:
- Air - Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Water - Conscious use of water resources
- Territory - Protection of the landscape and the rural environment
- Vineyard - Good agricultural practices
With VIVA certification, our daily work is analysed and evaluated objectively, giving the consumer an extra guarantee of the quality and responsibility of our choices.
SOStain: sustainability according to Sicily
SOStain is the first Regional wine sustainability in Italy, promoted by the SOStain Sicily Foundation. This certification is based on a protocol that combines scientific, ethical and territorial criteriawith the aim of:
- Protecting biodiversity
- Enhancing the Sicilian landscape
- Promoting the well-being of the community
- Supporting transparent and balanced production practices
Joining SOStain means making a concrete commitment to our territory, ensuring that each bottle is an authentic expression of a Sustainable Sicily.
A path started long ago
The new certifications add to a journey that started many years ago: since 2016 our wines have been certified organicbecause we believe in viticulture that respects the environment and preserves its integrity.
Starting fromyear 2024the VIVA and SOStain logos will also be visible on the back labels of our bottlesnext to the words 'organic wine'. A tangible sign of a transparent and lasting commitment, which we want to share with those who choose our wines every day.
A greener future, vintage after vintage
For us, sustainability is not an end point, but a constantly evolving pathof conscious choices, investment, training and listening. The VIVA and SOStain certifications represent an important step along this path, which we want to pursue with increasing conviction.
